The WOCNCB offers an advanced practice (AP) nursing certification in the wound, ostomy, and continence (WOC) specialties as a way for you to demonstrate your advanced specialty knowledge and your commitment to continued growth in your profession.
Nurses currently certified by the WOCNCB apply for AP status using a portfolio process known as the Professional Growth Program. The use of a professional portfolio to demonstrate competency is a psychometrically sound and legally defensible method which continues to gain credibility in both professional and consumer discussions on the issue of the protection of public safety.
Because licensure requirements for Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) vary significantly from state to state, we can't guarantee that WOCNCB AP certification will meet your state's licensure requirements. Your state board of nursing can answer your licensing questions and help determine how WOCNCB AP certification can benefit your advanced practice specialty role. You may also wish to check with your employer regarding internal practice guidelines. To contact your state board of nursing click here.
The National Council State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) has drafted an Interstate APN Compact Agreement for consideration by states that accept the RN Compact requirements. For more information, visit the NCSBN website at www.ncsbn.org.
