Board participation is not only a great way to contribute to the WOC specialty, but it will also enhance your personal and professional growth.
Board Composition
The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board is a 9 member board comprised of 8 certified WOC Nurses who are elected by the certificants and serve 4-year terms and 1 public member who serves a 2-year term. Board members are responsible for making critical decisions regarding the certification process, budget and strategic planning. There are two face-to-face meetings each year with monthly conference calls in between.
Qualifications for Election to the WOCNCB Board
- Certified by the WOCNCB
- Minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree
- Possess skills and attributes required for board governance and strategic planning; i.e., leadership skills, project development and implementation skills
- E-mail and Internet capabilities
Board members are prohibited from participating:
- In the development or implementation of any certification review materials or course sessions.
- As a faculty member or adjunct involved in curriculum development or implementation of a WOCN-accredited education program.
These prohibitions are effective throughout the time the individual is on the Board and for a period of two years thereafter.
Members of the Board may provide clinical preceptorships for WOC programs
Duties of a Board Member
- Contribute to board governance and strategic planning
- Work with the testing company in evaluating examination results
- Review and revise examination content outlines periodically so that it continually reflects current WOCN practice
- Participate in appeals process
- Transact the general business and affairs of the WOCNCB including the review of by-laws, policies, procedures, finances, contractual relationships and marketing
- Participate in all WOCNCB conference calls
- Attend all WOCNCB meetings
- Maintain confidentiality of the certification process
- Serve as chairperson or committee member during special projects as appointed by the President
Nominations
Nominations are accepted through April 30th of each election year.
If you would like to be considered as a candidate for the WOCNCB Board or if you know someone who would be a good candidate, click the link below. You will be contacted by the WOCNCB Nominations Committee Chair for a brief interview. If selected to be placed on the ballot,
you will be asked to submit your employment information, educational background, and answer questions regarding your leadership abilities and skills. You will also need to submit your Curriculum Vitae and a current photograph. If approved, you will be notified of nomination acceptance by May 30th of an election year.
