President's Message

I hope you are all staying well and enjoying Fall so far. While I consider myself to be more of an eternal summer person, I still find that the beautiful foliage, trips to the local apple orchards and pumpkin patches, and of course, Halloween brings me so much joy! As the seasons change, the WOCNCB® continues to stay busy.

October 1st was Ostomy Awareness Day. There were many WOCNCB® Board of Directors, committee members, and certified nurses who joined with the UOAA to spread the word that Ostomies Are Life-Savers! I enjoyed seeing all the posts on social media from the WOCNCB® Team, who, along with their pets, participated in the Worldwide Virtual Ostomy 5k, and from WOCNCB® certified nurses who showcased their creativity on spreading ostomy awareness to end the stigma of a stoma..

A Job Task Analysis (JTA) is in progress for the WTA-C®. I want to thank each of the volunteers who have taken the time to participate in this important activity to help us ensure the certification exams are relevant to current practice. The JTA is also a key part of developing the exam content outline, which is a useful reference when studying for the certification exam.

The WOCNCB® understands that events may happen which create uncertainty in life. For those who are due to recertify and were impacted by the recent hurricanes along the US/Canadian East coast, Florida, and Puerto Rico, please know that we are here to help. This may be through a certification expiration date Credential Extension, replacing damaged WOCNCB® certificates, or our Benevolence Fund. If you are planning for retirement yet unsure if you may need to return to the workforce, consider applying for the Retired Status. For those who are unable to fulfill the requirements for recertification due to experiencing personal illness or injury, their responsibilities as a caregiver for a family member, or relocation, the Inactive Status is an option that allows them to return to certified status!

The WOCNCB® will be exhibiting at the 2022 Magnet & Pathway Conference in Philadelphia. If you plan to attend, stop by and see us at booth 1040!

Warm regards,

Jessica Simmons, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, CWON, DNC
WOCNCB® President

Certified Nurses Make a Difference PSA Campaign!

WOCNCB is proud to be a part of the Certified Nurses Make a Difference TV Public Service Campaign from the National Certification Corporation (NCC). This PSA helps patients and families understand that certified nurses can provide information, support, and guidance for them as they navigate the health care system through every stage of their life. Distribution for the PSA includes broadcast and cable TV, Connected TV, Marketed YouTube, Hulu Streaming and more. Watch and share!

Effective September 18, WOCNCB’s testing company, Scantron, has been acquired by Meazure Learning, so when you contact them regarding your exams or you receive emails from them, you will now see Meazure Learning throughout their communications. Meazure Learning was created through the merger of ProctorU and Yardstick, who were both providers of online proctored exams. The same service staff WOCNCB worked with at Scantron have continued in their positions with Meazure Learning, so there will be no interruption in service to our applicants and test-takers.
