Experiential Pathway
The WOCNCB® provides alternatives for being eligible to apply for the WOCNCB certification exams. To be eligible for the Experiential Pathway, you must:
- Within each specialty for which certification is sought, have 50 contact hours (CEUs) and 1,500 clinical hours must be completed over the previous five years. *Further, 375 hours must have occurred within the past one year prior to application.
- If a submitted educational program covers multiple topics, the program brochure or class syllabus must be included with the application.
- A copy of each certificate of completion of contact hours must be submitted.
All CEUs must directly apply to the specialty area to which you apply for certification. Submit a CEU point log using the form in the handbook showing program date, course title, course provider and approved accrediting organization.

Experiential Track - Eligibility Change
EFFECTIVE August 1, 2009:
- Within each specialty for which certification is sought, 50 contact hours (CEUs) or an equivalent in college course work post- BSN must be completed over the previous five years. All CEUs or college course work must directly apply to the specialty area for which applied
- For each certification specialty, 1500 clinical hours must be completed over the previous five years. Further, 375 hours must have occurred within the past one-year prior to application.
- Candidates certifying using CEUs must submit a CEU log using the form on page 19 of the Candidate Handbook showing program date, course title, course provider and approved accrediting organization. If a submitted educational program covers multiple topics, the program brochure and/or topic outline should also be included with the application. A copy of all CEU certificates must be submitted with the application.
- Candidates certifying using college credits should include with the application the course description, course content outlines, and evidence of course hours applying to the specialty. Official college transcripts need to be included with the application.
The WOCNCB is dedicated to expediting the process for the Experiential Track candidate but takes no responsibility for late arrivals, lost applications or incomplete applications. It is recommended that Experiential Track candidates apply well before the deadline date, but within six months of the examination date.
