Question:
My WOCN certification expired March 31, 2024 this has never happened in the past 15 years. I would appreciate your guidance.

When credentials have Lapsed less than six months, you may certify again via examination, using the 6 months grace period option. This gives you six months to test from the date of lapsed credentials. Please review the Exam Handbook regarding this option.

Question:
What is the scope of practice of a certified foot care nurse? In a home care setting, wound RNs be able to cut nails and debride?

Answered May 1, 2024
The WOCNCB certification demonstrates that you have additional knowledge in the specialty. However, regardless of a specialty certification, your state board of nursing governs your scope of practice according to your licensure and varies by state. For example, a certified CFCN may hold RN but another may hold NP, etc., and therefore each would practice at different levels and could vary by state. We suggest contacting your state board.

Question:
According to the handbook, volunteering with the local ostomy support group is granted "specialty" points. However, when I entered it into my portfolio, under Volunteer Work for Patient Support Org, it prepopulates as "Professional Practice". I tried, but was unable to edit it.Could this result in my portfolio being returned for correction?

Answered April 26, 2024
We will review the error, and update it as needed. We recommend waiting until Tuesday to be sure you see the Specialty status is available. As long as you have at least 40 specialty points in the portfolio, and as long as at least 10 CE are in the specialty, a portfolio can be sent.

Question:

You are eligible to apply for the CFCN exam, by having an RN and Bachelor's as well as 24 CE in Foot Care plus 40 hours of clinical experience in foot care. Our exam eligibility information is on this website under "Certification / Foot Care" and click on "Eligibility". Following that, the exam application can be found by clicking on "Exam" while on that website page.

Question:
Hi, I was wondering what are the current # for current CWON-AP (how many, approximately). and the other AP certifications. Thank you!

Answered April 23, 2024
We show the following totals per credential: CWCN-AP = 536; COCN-AP = 259; and CCCN-AP = 111. Since these are credentials, and not individuals, when we count individuals holding CWON-AP, that is 89 and for CWOCN-AP is 71.

Question:
I added up my hours worked for PGP practice hours and came out with 1929.4- a little shy of the 2000 hours because I retired for a year. I tried to click to claim 1500 hours but it won't let me. I should be able to claim 35 points. How do I do this?

Answered April 22, 2024
We suggest entering two items, a Practice Hours for 1,000 and one for 500 hours.

I developed and presented an Ostomy educational workshop for our new graduate nurses. It was a combination of education and hands-on skill training. It took 60 minutes. Would I be able to claim 10 points for developing and 10 points for presenting for a total of 20 points for this program?

Answered April 24, 2024
Thank you for your question! You are correct. You can claim a total of 20 points.

Question:
I took the Wound nurse certification test this past week after going through the experiential pathway. I had been acing the 200 flash cards and the 40 question practice test both from WOCNCB. I failed the test and absolutely felt that I was totally not prepared for the test although I had studied. What do you recommend for a nurse to study to be able to pass the test?do

Answered April 22, 2024
There is the "Exam Content Outline" document which lists the topics covered on the exam, and may be a resource to consider for identifying areas for your focus of study. The score report provided at the end of your exam will identify how you did in the "domains" within this exam content outline document. WOCNCB can only recommend resources for study, without implication for any specific advantage for performance on examinations.

Question:
Hi. I currently took over in the beginning of the year as president of my local wocn affiliate. Per Natioanl WOCN, we are now a local networking community with no board as per the new transition. I will be stepping into the liason roll for the rest of my 2 years. How do I capture this on pgp?

Answered April 24, 2024
Both of these examples would fall under category 3. Your previous role would fall under professional organizations/State/Region/Local Board/Committee Chair/ Officer/Member and your current role sounds like it would fall under volunteer work/meeting coordinator for WOC networking group. both of these activities allow you to climb 10 points per year. Additional information is found on page 13 of the hand book.
